HIV Care Continuum and Housing

Read this 12 pg article from the Office of HIV/AIDS Housing to learn how housing impacts HIV Care.

From the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD):

This resource was created by the Office of HIV/AIDS Housing to assist Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) providers and other HIV service organizations to implement President Obama’s HIV Care Continuum Initiative. This resource highlights key findings from research studies to demonstrate the impact that stable housing has on each step of the HIV Care Continuum. In addition, it promotes stable housing as a critical component of effective systems of HIV care and supports improved collaborations between housing and HIV care providers to better integrate care and improve health outcomes for persons living with HIV/AIDS.

And, from the resource (“HIV CARE CONTINUUM: The Connection Between Housing And Improved Outcomes Along The HIV Care Continuum”) itself:

This focus on the HIV Care Continuum is both a challenge and an exciting new opportunity for
HIV and homeless housing providers. For years, research and practice have demonstrated that
safe, stable housing provides the essential foundation for successful management of HIV and
other chronic diseases. However, many housing providers and systems currently lack the data or
the capacity to track client’s medical outcomes along the Continuum.
