HIV Care Continuum: An Overview

Telling the story of HIV and how it affects a specific group of people or a region is an important advocacy tool. It is also an important monitoring tool. In 2011, Dr. Edward Garner presented a model of HIV data composed in bar graphs and called it a “treatment cascade.” Since then, the term “HIV Care Continuum” has become nomenclature for this data visualization and health departments (as well as community clinics) are translating their surveillance data into this form. If the term is still new to you, or you want to educate stakeholders and community members, this short article from AIDS.gov is a good place to start.
